A Chorus Line - February 2013

With 'A Chorus Line' now officially open in the Westend after two weeks of previews we give you our review of the show.

A Chorus Line centres around a group of hopefuls auditioning to be part of 'A Chorus Line' for director Zach, played by John Partridge. The 18 auditionees all have their own stories to tell, brilliantly explained through a series of monologues and musical numbers executed with precision by each individual as well as group numbers.

Victoria plays feisty Puerto Rican. Diana Morales, a strong female figure with a passion for dance. She tells her story through the song 'Nothing' which describes the journey she had at drama school and how she felt about her teacher 'Mr Carp'. Diana wraps up the narrative with the evocative piece 'What I Did For Love' joined by the cast in a reflection on their passion for the business.

We have now seen the show 3 times. Victoria has grown in her role amazingly over the last few weeks. Her execution of 'Nothing' is outstanding, she unravels the story and captures her audience from the first lyric, she makes us feel her emotions in the right places. Each time Victoria has finished the song to a rapturous round of applause. Victoria dances with such gusto and precision she is like watching a bullet fly out of a gun!

Victorias last solo of the show 'What I Did For Love', a beautiful song, really bringing home what dancing means to every auditionee in the show and also of course to those dancers and performers all over the world. This is where Victoria brings a hush over the entire theatre, she sings the song with real passion which is shown in the amazing emotions throughout the song, surely everyone in the theatre doesn't have a dry eye at the end?

The show ends with a wonder 'Chorus Line' performance complete with dazzle and diamonds. A marvelous Finale with a full cast and pin point choreography courtesy of living legend Bayork Lee. There is no fancy curtain call, a simple bow and a blackout, ending the production on a high.

With other standout performances from John Partridge (Zach), Scarlett Strallen (Cassie). Leigh Zimmerman (Sheila) and dark horse Gary Wood (Paul) A Chorus Line is certainly not a show to be missed so get on those dancing shoes and head on down to the Palladium and 'kick those heels', its well worth the ticket price.

Enjoy
